I don't suppose these are too patronizing?
Found in a cafe in Turin. Jelle was not amused I miss Tagalog, the sound of that language i was force fed but then grew to like better than English simply because it threw most people off that i would be fluent. The other day i told Jelle: 'Kikilitiin kita' and he burst out laughing so hard, he had tears in the corners of his eyes. 'That's funny' he said, whilst not even knowing what i'd said. I realized right then and there that Tagalog is actually quite pleasant to the ear, long as you don't understand what's being said. I dunno. I just miss speaking it, hearing it. I sure am not going to 'forget it' the way some people do when they've gone out of the country and come back. That's just ridiculous. Besides, after all the hard work i put in just to learn it...!
A 12 year old Polish girl died on the piste the other day. She crashed against a tree, which is actually quite 'normal' when it comes to ski-related incidents, or deaths. Last month Ivan Origone, brother to the world champion, crashed against several trees while training for the world championship qualifications. He suffered several injuries but escaped with his life. I just keep thinking of that girl, that poor child who was here on vacation with the family. It's unbelievable. It's unbelievably sad. | Fly Away | Jan 22, '09 5:15 AM for everyone |
It's promised to be an active year, 2009. Soon as the season is over, Jelle and i are going to visit my family and spend a couple of days in Bergamo. Come the 5th of April, it's back to Belgium to see his family for a week, to say goodbye for the next year. Then it's off to the Philippines for a week or so- i miss my friends!- and then... And then we're off to New Zealand. Ohhhhhhhh i cannot wait. I have never had to work for ... actually, for anything. Huh. Interesting. But we're in Champoluc now, working our ass off (and having fun as an aperitif to what's to follow), and we cannot wait for the Big Dream that's underlying all of it. Strange how it doesn't feel strange at all to be bringing Jelle to the Philippines... This is where i live now, Rue de Chamoix, Magneaz. Brrr. I have never been this cold, and i mean -21C temperatures at valley, some 5 degrees lower at quota. Hell, i've never worn THERMAL underwear to bed, but i don't mind the folly when it means i won't fear closing my eyes and dying of hypothermia! The offer came last minute. I'd honestly almost given up on finding employment this late into the season- i was actually setting my mind on this watersports resort in the south of France that was already looking into making me an offer for one of their managerial position starting early January. Then it came thru, a phone call out of the blue, that i answered in my bathrobe while serving morning coffee to my boyfriend. Immediate start, come as early as possible to settle in, is what she said. The position pays very generously and involves supervising the hotel restaurant on a shifting basis so that one week i work the dinner hours and the following week i work the breakfast and dinner hours. Never lunch. What i do in between is my business, but i'll definitely be using the free ski pass and ski hire included in the package. December to late April- Champoluc, Val d'Ayas. 200km ski piste, -9C to -3C weather at quota. Amazing opportunity. Of course i said yes! I guess we know where Jelle and i will be this Christmas | | Memories, perhaps the best memories, of my season in Mallorca. |
It's been ages since i last even visited this blog. I don't know how to even set out on the task of updating since there's so much that can be said of what's happened since my last post. I'm still in Mallorca. I'm still in love with the island, the job, the people i've become friends with... Or fallen in love with I might be going to Belgium in November to follow my heart... And New Zealand in January, to follow our dream. I'm happy. Isn't that all that matters?

Oh I am so loving scarves this moment :) Weather is perfect for wearing them at the neck, as a hair accessory, on your handbag, even as a top! Sadly, i can't afford it right now- but it's definitely on my priority list soon as i can Handmade Roan weekend bag is constructed of soft nappa leather with custom brass hardware. By new designer Jessica Maxcy. You have to admire her confidence. After having been voted by Maxim as the world's UN-sexiest woman of 2007, Sarah Jessica Parker shows the world she doesn't give a s#!t, and i am all for that attitude. How many women can carry off an outfit the way she has as Carrie Bradshaw? I can only look up to the likes of SJP and the Olsen twins, who keep showing up at red carpet premieres, galas, openings and other high scale productions wearing themselves. I applaud their conviction in their styles. The Olsens have consistently made appearance at the top of Worst Dressed lists, specially Ashley, a fact that makes me admire big designers like John Galliano who cites the twins as a source of inspiration, crediting their creativity at the risk of losing his credibility. I've heard it said that Style is originality; Fashion is fascism. That having been said, i have to add that i know a lot of fashionable people, but only a handful of stylish individuals. I feel so miserable without you, it's almost like having you here. --Stephen Bishop-- | Guestbook | |
